Total solution was provided to a leading US Parcel carrier. The system is designed to handle small mail parcels, typically the type of product that is ordered through online fulfillment. Typical product is small boxes, jiffy bags and small packages. These packages are received by the client packaged with a bar code applied. The client went through an extensive bid process inviting leading industry providers to offer solutions. After detailed analysis the client selected SDI for this fast track project. SDI designed custom chutes that allow mail sacks, gayloard pallet boxes and mail carts all to share the same chutes. The chutes were designed in conjunction with the client and interface precisely with a cross belt sorter. Proximity switches were designed to fit into each chute to identify if the container being used is full. Each chute was provided with a Alpha numeric display that provides information about the destination the product is being sorted to. In the system in the video, shown during testing, Items are manually placed onto the belt with a bar code facing upwards. A camera scanner array is used to read the 2D bar code. SDI then provided an interface to the client who instantaneously provide a destination for that mail item. |
