Loehmann's Logistics asked SDI to help design an area where they could pick non-sortable and high-value merchandise that would not be processed through the unit sorter.  The existing operation was paper based when SDI suggested installing its WSS 'RF-Order Sorting' module.  This module is a totally paperless picking system that can be used in a variety of applications.

Loehmann's created a secured cage area and set up store carton positions on shelving.  Product is inducted into the area on a conveyor line in single SKU totes.  A packer with an RF gun scans a unit in the tote and the system instructs the packer to place the correct number of units into each store carton.

Finished cartons are conveyed directly to the unit sorter where the SDI WSS system allows them to be placed directly into store shipping cartons along with the loose units that were sorted with the unit sorter, maximizing shipping cube and saving on freight.

On peak days, Loehmann's processes up to 10K units through the RF Order Sort module and realized an immediate doubling in productivity along with increased accuracy when the system came on-line.  This technology is also used for shoe processing in a separate area of the facility.
